The Cost of Being ‘Correct’: How Communication Becomes Performance of Identity
Date and Time: Sunday, October 25th at 9am
Room: Quarzo
Description: This talk asks a simple but unsettling question: what if we are not actually communicating as ourselves?
In everyday life, we are trained to be “correct” in how we speak: clear, appropriately, professionally, and socially acceptable. Over time, this pressure does not just shape what we say, but quietly shapes who we are allowed to be in interaction.
Drawing on applied improvisation and real interactional moments, this session explores how communication often becomes a performance of identity rather than a direct encounter between people. It reveals how quickly we slip into roles: employee, expert, polite stranger, and how rarely we notice it happening.
Through short stories from improvisational practice, we will look at what changes when those roles briefly break. The talk invites you to experience communication not as correctness, but as something more fragile, surprising, and alive underneath it.
